Norwegian language training for adults
Norwegian language training is available to adult immigrants through municipalities, county authorities and approved private providers.
Whether you have a right or an obligation to participate in Norwegian language training depends on your residence status and the rules that apply to you.
The Norwegian language curriculum for adult immigrants covers language development from A1 to B2. The training focuses on practical communication skills, including listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Training can be organised in different ways depending on the provider and the participant's situation. Municipal adult education centres are common providers.
If you are covered by the integration rules, your municipality can provide information about your individual rights and obligations and how your Norwegian training is organised.
If you participate in the Introduction Programme, Norwegian language training can be included in your individual plan according to your needs and goals.
Norwegian training can help you prepare for work, education and participation in Norwegian society.
There are approved providers of Norwegian language and social studies tuition. HK-dir maintains information about approved providers.
Before registering for a course, check whether you have a statutory right or obligation to training and whether the course is approved for the purpose you need.
If you need Norwegian documentation for permanent residence, citizenship, education or another application, check the exact requirements that apply to your situation.
Keep documentation of your Norwegian training, attendance and completed courses when relevant.
You can also supplement classroom training with independent practice, digital resources and Norwegian language activities in everyday life.
