Housing support in Norway

Housing support (bostøtte) is a government support scheme administered by Husbanken. It can help households with low income and high housing costs pay for their housing.

Whether you are entitled to housing support depends on several factors, including your household income, housing costs, household composition and the type of housing you live in.

You normally apply for housing support through your municipality or through Husbanken's application system. The municipality can provide information about the application process and help if you have questions.

Housing support is not automatically available to everyone who rents or owns a home. You must meet the applicable eligibility requirements.

The amount of housing support can vary depending on your income, housing costs, household and other circumstances.

If your income or housing situation changes, this may affect your housing support. You should provide correct and updated information when applying and report relevant changes according to the applicable rules.

If you are having difficulty paying your rent or other necessary housing costs, you can also contact your municipality or NAV to ask whether other forms of financial assistance may be available.

Husbanken provides current information about housing support, eligibility requirements and how to apply.
