Citizenship with an EU/EEA family residence card
This route concerns a person whose residence in Norway is based on a residence card as a family member of an EU/EEA citizen. A residence card documents a basis for staying in Norway; it does not grant Norwegian citizenship.
What UDI examines
UDI considers the years you had a right of residence, the family relationship and whether the other citizenship conditions apply to you. The required period can vary with age and circumstances. Absences, changes in the family relationship or the EU/EEA citizen's status may matter. Adults may need to document language skills and the citizenship test, subject to the rules and exceptions for their group.
Documents and application
Prepare identification, your residence cards, evidence of the relationship and records showing the basis of residence over the relevant period. Register the citizenship application, check the tailored document list, pay any applicable fee and submit your documents following the appointment instructions. The authorities assess eligibility individually.
