How to practise Norwegian
Regular practice is one of the most effective ways to improve your Norwegian.
Try to use Norwegian every day, not only during language classes. Even short conversations can help you become more comfortable with the language.
Practise listening by watching Norwegian news, videos, television programmes and other content. Start with material that is easy to understand and gradually move to more difficult content.
Practise speaking whenever you have an opportunity. You can speak with classmates, colleagues, neighbours, teachers or other people in your local community.
Reading is also important. Start with short and practical texts such as messages, signs, websites, advertisements and simple news articles. Later, you can move to longer texts.
Writing regularly can help you remember vocabulary and improve your grammar. You can write short messages, emails, diary entries or descriptions of your daily activities.
Learn vocabulary in context instead of memorising isolated words. Try to learn useful phrases and expressions that you can use in real situations.
Do not wait until your Norwegian is perfect before speaking. Making mistakes is a normal part of language learning. Try to notice your mistakes, understand the correction and use the correct form next time.
A useful routine is to combine several activities every day: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
You can also use official practice materials for the Norwegian language test. HK-dir provides sample tasks and recommends practising Norwegian reading and becoming familiar with the structure and task types of the test.
