Norwegian language courses in Norway
Norwegian language training is available through municipalities, adult education centres and other approved providers.
Many immigrants have a right or an obligation to participate in Norwegian language training under the Norwegian integration rules. The exact rights and requirements depend on your residence status and individual situation.
Municipal adult education centres are approved providers of Norwegian language and social studies tuition. Some private providers and organisations can also be approved by the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-dir).
Norwegian language training is generally based on a national curriculum for adult immigrants. The curriculum covers language development from beginner levels and is organised around practical language skills.
Before starting a course, contact your municipality or adult education centre to find out whether you have a right or obligation to Norwegian training and how to register.
If you participate in the Introduction Programme, Norwegian language training can be part of your individual integration plan. The language training should support your goals for work, education and participation in Norwegian society.
You may also have the possibility to continue Norwegian language training after the Introduction Programme if you meet the applicable conditions.
There are also digital and flexible Norwegian learning options. These can be useful if classroom attendance is difficult or if you need additional practice alongside regular lessons.
Keep information about your course attendance and completed training. You may need documentation of your Norwegian training for future applications or other purposes.
