Asylum & Protection in Poland
Applying for international protection in Poland, the procedure and where to get help.
- Applying for international protection
In Poland, applications for international protection are submitted through the Border Guard (Straż Graniczna). The Head of the Office for Foreigners examines the claim. Explain that you want to seek protection and ask for an interpreter if needed.
- While your application is being examined
Use the current Office for Foreigners information for applicants. It explains the procedure, documents, rights and obligations. The office publishes separate information for applications lodged from 12 June 2026, so the date of your application matters.
- Finding legal help for a protection case
Foreigners living in Poland can contact the public free legal aid system. Some consultation points offer assistance with migration matters and languages other than Polish. Check availability and any eligibility formalities when booking.
