Family allowance: zasiłek rodzinny

Check municipal family allowance and supplements separately from the ZUS 800+ programme.

Find the responsible office

Zasiłek rodzinny is a means-tested family allowance with possible supplements. Apply through the municipality’s designated family-benefits office, often within OPS/MOPS or a benefits centre; it is not the ZUS 800+ application. Confirm the office, current form and benefit period before sending documents.

Check eligibility and income

Residence category, family composition, the child’s age, study and disability circumstances matter. The office assesses the relevant income year with lost and newly acquired income adjustments; a bank balance alone is not the calculation. Ask about the current threshold and the złotówka za złotówkę reduction mechanism rather than assuming any excess automatically excludes you.

Prepare the evidence

Gather identification, stay/status and family documents, school or disability evidence where relevant, income and income-change records, and any maintenance or care decisions. Disclose family work, residence and benefits abroad so the authority can check coordination. Ask what it obtains itself and what you must provide; do not use an old universal checklist.

Apply and report changes

Use the official local submission route or Emp@tia where supported, keep confirmation and monitor correspondence. Supplements have their own conditions; a base allowance does not automatically grant every addition. Report relevant changes and check renewal requirements. For refusal or overpayment follow the actual decision and appeal notice, keeping proof of delivery.
