CUKR and changing your residence basis
Compare the special CUKR route with ordinary residence, check eligibility and understand the effects before applying.
Check the special CUKR conditions
CUKR confirms a special temporary residence permit, normally for 3 years. Current Office guidance requires qualifying UKR on 4 June 2025, active UKR at application and issuance, and at least 365 continuous days of UKR. Separate conditions apply to a child born in Poland. Do not add interrupted periods together or assume every present UKR holder qualifies; verify the current filing deadline.
Prepare and submit through MOS
Use the official CUKR procedure and dedicated MOS portal, not an unrelated paper residence form. Check passport and PESEL data, recorded biometrics, digital photograph, signature method, current fees and child-representation documents. Keep submission proof and monitor official requests. The EU protection extension does not automatically extend every CUKR deadline or replace application requirements.
Understand consequences before submitting
Ask how a CUKR application affects an already pending ordinary residence-and-work case; the official FAQ describes automatic discontinuance of that case on submission. Check eligibility first and seek advice if another case is important. Submitting alone does not change UKR to CUKR; collection of the card changes the residence basis and ends temporary-protection status and some linked assistance.
Collect and maintain the new status
Follow the collection notice; the official FAQ describes invalidation if the card is not collected within 60 days. Confirm the resulting record, work rights, insurance, benefit eligibility and new absence/renewal conditions rather than continuing to use UKR rules. CUKR is not permanent residence or citizenship. Compare ordinary work, family, study or business routes with a qualified adviser if CUKR is unsuitable.
