Registering and checking PESEL UKR
Register on time, verify the actual UKR record and resolve missing identity verification or incorrect data.
Register through the municipality
For the applicable new-entry procedure, apply personally to a municipal office for PESEL with UKR status within 30 days of entry. Do not confuse an ordinary PESEL with active UKR. Bring a valid travel document and available entry, family and eligibility evidence; confirm the required photograph, biometrics and arrangements for children. Explain missing documents promptly instead of waiting silently.
Check the identity-verification deadline
For affected people registered without a passport, the deadline to verify identity using a valid travel document was 31 August 2026. It has already passed; failure can mean UKR was changed to NUE from 1 September 2026. An old printout or possession of the PESEL number does not prove the status remains active.
Resolve a problem with the right office
Ask the municipality to check the register, identity data and reason for any status change. Bring current documents, previous confirmations and entry/travel evidence; border-entry record issues may require the relevant Border Guard unit. Distinguish correction of an administrative error from reacquiring protection after a genuine loss. Do not assume a late passport update automatically restores all rights.
Keep evidence and update changes
Keep the application receipt and current confirmation, and update a replaced passport, changed name or family details. Ask about the temporary-protection document in mObywatel where available; a screenshot is not a substitute for a valid live document. If status or lawful stay is uncertain, obtain qualified advice before travel or work. Use the separate Documents guide for the full PESEL application checklist.
