mObywatel and the temporary-protection document

Install the official app, add an eligible document and distinguish digital identification from a passport or residence entitlement.

Understand which document is available

mObywatel is the government app; available documents depend on your identity and status. PESEL or installing the app does not give every foreigner a Polish mDowód. For eligible temporary-protection holders, look for Dokument ochrony czasowej, formerly Diia.pl. Check current eligibility on the official document page, including the rules for children.

Install and activate

Follow the official mObywatel page to App Store or Google Play. Install or update the app, set your own strong access code, choose the eligible document and complete the identity confirmation shown on screen, such as Profil zaufany. Check your name, photograph, PESEL, document validity and certificate. The app is free; do not pay a third party for activation.

If the document is missing

First update the app and refresh or renew the document certificate as instructed. Check access to Profil zaufany and whether UKR status and passport data in PESEL are current. A technical error and loss of protection are different problems. Contact official app support for technical faults and the municipality for registry errors; reinstalling the app cannot restore lost status.

Use it safely and before travel

Show the live document and use the official verification method, not a screenshot. The app does not replace a valid passport for international travel. Before leaving Poland, check current border rules, your digital document and the effect of absence on UKR status. Never assume every destination accepts an app document or that it gives unrestricted residence or work rights elsewhere.
