Permanent residence: pobyt stały
Polish national permanent residence depends on a statutory category, not simply on years of employment.
Check the qualifying category
National permanent residence is an indefinite Polish residence status. The eligible categories include specified cases involving Polish origin or a valid Pole’s Card and an intention to settle, certain family ties and other situations defined by law. Each category has its own conditions.
Do not confuse residence routes
Several years of employment do not automatically qualify someone for national permanent residence. A long-term EU resident permit has a different legal basis and residence calculation. Likewise, marriage to a Polish citizen does not immediately create a right to permanent residence; the relevant marriage and prior-stay conditions must be met.
Prepare category-specific evidence
Collect identity documents and the documents proving your exact basis: for example a Pole’s Card, ancestry and civil-status records, or evidence of qualifying family and residence history. Check translation requirements and the current checklist. The Pole’s Card procedure is one specific route, not a checklist for everyone.
Apply and keep documents current
Use the current submission method, including MOS where required, and preserve the receipt. Attend appointments and answer requests. If the status is granted indefinitely, the physical card still has a validity period and must be replaced as required. Permanent residence is not Polish citizenship.
