Checking your right to work
Check lawful stay, the work route and employer duties before starting or changing a job in Poland.
Check both conditions
Lawful stay and permission to perform the particular work are separate checks. EU/EEA/Swiss citizens, protection holders and other categories follow different routes. A PESEL number, job offer or pending residence application alone does not prove work rights. Check the actual residence document, its validity and the applicable permit, notification or exemption.
Confirm the employer’s procedure
For temporary-protection employment, the Polish hiring entity must normally notify the powiatowy urząd pracy within 7 days after work starts. Other legally staying Ukrainian citizens may also use current transitional rules; do not assume UKR is the only possible route. Ask the employer for confirmation of the correct procedure. Work-permit and declaration routes have different formalities.
Compare the conditions
Before starting, compare the employer, role, pay, hours and location with the relevant authorisation and written contract. Ask PIP or the competent office about any mismatch. Do not treat a permit from another country or a tourist visa as automatic permission to work in Poland.
When circumstances change
Before changing employer or job conditions, check whether a new notification, permit or amendment is required. Job loss and residence-permit duties are separate from employment formalities; contact the issuing office promptly. Keep copies of documents and submission confirmations. Do not rely solely on an agency’s verbal assurance that everything is arranged.
