Pay, taxes and ZUS contributions

Check insurance registration, gross-to-net deductions and annual tax documents without confusing tax, ZUS and work permission.

Check insurance registration

For an employee subject to Polish insurance, the payer normally registers them with ZUS within 7 days of the insurance obligation arising. Ask for confirmation and check your insured-person information in eZUS. The applicable contributions depend on the contract, other insurance titles and coordination rules; zlecenie, student or cross-border situations can differ.

Check each payment

Keep your contract, gross-pay calculation, payslip and bank transfer. Ask payroll to explain tax advances, social and health contributions and other deductions. A PESEL number or a deduction shown on a payslip is not itself proof that all registration and reporting duties were fulfilled.

Prepare annual tax filing

Collect PIT-11 from each payer where applicable and check the relevant tax year in Twój e-PIT. PIT-11 is information from the payer, not your submitted annual return. The usual filing deadline is 30 April of the following year, subject to calendar rules; check the actual year. Confirm the correct form, make corrections and save UPO after submission.

Ask about complex cases

Tax residence depends on personal or economic ties or presence exceeding 183 days, with treaty rules for dual residence; immigration status alone does not decide it. Foreign income, self-employment or IFT-1R can require a different filing approach. Do not assume every return is automatically accepted. Contact KAS or a tax adviser for tax questions, and ZUS for insurance errors.
