Residence for running a business
Registering a business and qualifying for a residence permit are separate steps.
Check the business form
First verify which business forms your nationality and residence status allow, such as a sole proprietorship registered in CEIDG or a commercial company. Owning shares, being a board member and operating as a sole trader are different situations and can involve different residence or work rules.
Show the business meets the conditions
The business residence procedure assesses the statutory economic criteria: relevant income, qualifying employment or credible resources and measures to achieve the requirements in future. Starting a company does not guarantee a residence permit, and there is no automatic founder shortcut.
Prepare a documented case
Prepare registration and ownership information, accounts and tax records, evidence of contracts or investment, employment evidence if relied on, and a realistic business plan where relevant. Include the personal application documents and the insurance, income or accommodation evidence required for your exact category.
Submit and maintain your basis
Follow the official MOS checklist and any electronic-attachment requirements applying to your role. Keep UPO and respond to requests. If the business closes, is suspended or your role changes, check notification duties and your residence basis promptly. Work for another employer may require separate authorisation.
