Changing the purpose or conditions of your stay

Distinguish a work-permit amendment, a new residence purpose and conversion from temporary protection.

Identify what changed

A new employer or some changes to job conditions can require an amendment to a temporary residence and work permit. An amendment does not extend the permit’s validity. Moving from employment to running a business or another residence purpose can require a new application rather than that amendment.

Act while the current basis is valid

Keep the decision, record when the change occurred and check the notification obligations immediately. Prepare evidence for the new purpose and the procedure applicable to your current status. Do not start work outside the authorised conditions merely because the card has not expired.

Temporary protection and CUKR

Eligible holders of UKR status have a specific CUKR conversion procedure, separate from ordinary work, family or study routes. Eligibility includes conditions concerning UKR status and its history. The official CUKR guidance also explains when status changes and how protection-linked entitlements are affected; benefits under other rules still have their own conditions.

Before choosing a new route

Check effects on your family members, work authorisation, healthcare, benefits and future residence counting. Do not cancel an existing status or withdraw an application on an assumption that a new route is guaranteed. For an individual conflict or deadline, obtain advice with your actual decisions and correspondence.
